From being a receptionist to becoming the face and body of Lara Croft, Croydon girl Alison Carroll’s life story is the stuff of movie scripts.

Taken from New Magazine the size-8 ex-gymnast was revealed as the latest woman to take on the iconic role of the video game’s action heroine, who Angelina Jolie played in the Tomb Raider films.

Alison certainly has all the right credentials. As well as representing Britain in gymnastics, the 5ft 56in 23 year old is a long-time fitness fanatic.

Here she shares her hints and tips.

Alison, you’re in amazing shape! How long do you work out for?

It varies from week to week and depends how I’m feeling, but I’ll probably go to the gym twice a week, run three times a week and do gymnastics training once a week.

Wow! What training do you do in the gym?

I start off with a cardio, so I might do a 20 minute run with hill and then I’ll go on the bike for ten minutes. Then I’ll do some free weights to work my biceps and triceps, and then I’ll do three sets of 30 squats with the bar as well to add a little extra weight. Then I’ll do two lots of 30 lunges on each leg and finally three sets of 30 sit-ups too. It all takes about an hour and a half.

Do you go running, too?

I run for four miles, which takes about an hour on terrain. That way, you’re working your whole body by doing cardio and really working your muscles as well. I love it.

What’s your gymnastics routine,pastillas meizitang en xalapa veracruz?

I’ll run around the floor ten times and in between laps, I’ll do ten press-ups or ten squat jumps. Then I’ll do a stretch warm-up to make sure all my muscles are flexible before I exert myself. I’ll then do rolls,pastillas meizitang en xalapa veracruz, handstands and cartwheels, and I’ll work up to back flips,pastillas meizitang en xalapa veracruz, back somersaults and twists. It’s very exhausting but the best thing to do. You enjoy it and I think that’s the most important thing about exercise.

Have you always been into keeping super-fit?

Absolutely – I just love it. I’ve been doing it ever since I was young. I think it’s really important for young people to be involved in exercise.

Have you ever followed a diet?

No I haven’t. They key to food is little and often so you’re not hungry.

Don’t leave it so long that you get unbelievably hungry, as then you’ll crave everything. If you keep your stomach filled up, you won’t have your cravings, and it’ll speed up your metabolism and help you maintain a steady weight.

So you don’t follow a specific diet – just a general healthy eating plan?

Yes, definitely. It’s important to find a diet that works specifically for you and I think I’ve found the diet for me.

Is there any particular food you try to avoid,pastillas meizitang en xalapa veracruz?

I don’t think so. I try to have a healthy, balanced diet but if I want something, I’ll have it.

     

Alison’s meal plan

 

Breakfast: bowl of muesli with semi-skimmed milk or the new 1 per cent fat milk, which has an orange top, coffee or orange juice.

Lunch: sushi and a glass of water.

Pudding: meringue nest with fruit or a fruit salad.

Snack: banana and a glass of water.

Dinner: brown rice with chicken, onions, peppers and a Cantonese sauce.

Snack: a couple of tangerines or a chocolate bar and a glass of water.

     

Alison’s hints & tips

 

Ø         If you want to eat something, you can have it – just not loads of it. You burn it off if you do exercise, so you might as well treat yourself now and again.

Ø         When you are sitting down, sit up nice and straight and pull your tummy in so that you’re working your muscles throughout the day. This is perfect if you work in an office.

Ø         Instead of the lift, take that stairs and do them two at a time to properly work your bottom and legs.

Ø         When you’re standing waiting for the bus, squeeze your legs and your bottom so you’re toning the whole time. Maintaining a good posture is also important.

Ø         If you’re struggling to get out there and do exercise, do something you’ll enjoy like gymnastics. You can have a laugh and tone up at the same time.
