What It Takes To Actually Lose Weight – Actual Personal Experience
For the record, I’m a 38 year old teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District who unfortunately let himself balloon up to 280 pounds. About six months ago I finally had enough with feeling lethargic, fat, and out of shape and decided to actually do something about it this time. Sure, in the past I’ve told myself the same thing, but my devotion to the plan was always short lived and after a week or two I was back to the same ‘ol fast food, sit-on-the-couch routine. I guess I had a moment of clarity when I realized where I was headed, along with the fact that since I’m soon turning 40, I think it was about time to start taking better care of my body. But I also realized the difference between what I am doing now, and what I did during my past failed attempts to get in shape and lose weight. Commitment. I truly want it this time. I am going to lose 60 pounds period. There is no doubt in my mind that I will be successful this time with shedding that excess weight that’s been accumulating over the past decade. Sure I may not lose that weight in record time, but that’s not what I’m concerned about. I’m just concerned about developing healthy habits I adhere to on a daily basis and get some regular exercise each week. I know that by doing this, and eliminating some of the bad habits that I’ve developed over the years, I will lose weight. Therefore my personal advice to anyone who may be on the fence debating if losing weight is really something they want, you’ve got to ask yourself how important is this to you. Are you absolutely 100% sure this is something you want? When you can answer yes to this question without hesitation, then you will have a much better chance to follow through with this promise to yourself. Losing weight and getting in shape can be difficult because there really is no one pushing you to do it. It’s not like a job where you have to clock in and out at a certain time. There is no manager, or boss hovering over your shoulder making sure you are eating right and working out 4 or 5 times a week. It’s all on you. If after work you go and get a double bacon cheeseburger with large fries and soda, no one is going to scold you or dock your pay. Only you will have to live with the repercussions of adding weight to your body eating in this manner. That’s what makes the process of losing weight so difficult because for the most part it’s a self-monitoring task. You are the one who has to be responsible and eat in a healthy manner day in and day out. You will be the one who has to resist snacking while watching tv on the couch or while using the computer. You will be the one who will need to get some form of exercise a few times per week if your doctor has cleared you. You will be the one who makes sure your portion size at meals are appropriate. The accountability is all on your shoulders. When you ask yourself if losing weight is truly a priority, and you are ready to be successful with this commitment, then be ready to make these types of decisions to lose the weight you want. When you focus on all the moments when food has a chance to enter your body, and keep the health and portion size of the food in mind, you will be well on your way to a healthier life.
